The city of Waxahachie’s Main Street Program ended its fourth Summer Moonlight Movie season with a street dance followed by a movie screening downtown.
“We wanted the season finale to be an end of the summer bash with the street dance putting everyone in the mood for our movie ‘Footloose,’ ” said Anita Williamson, downtown development director.
DJ Dan Beaty of Your DJ from Duncanville began the evening’s entertainment with songs from the movie and other dance tunes. The heat stalled the early crowds but, by sunset, close to 75 began to fill the street for some line dancing before the show began.
“This is a gift we want to give to the community. It’s a quality of life theme where the whole family can come out, bring their lawn chairs and have a good time,” Williamson said. “Everyone has fun at these programs. The shows are entertainment for the whole family, even the kids have fun.”
Supporting the program, the Waxahachie Lions Club was on hand to sell drinks and snacks, with popcorn a big seller.
The Lions use the funds they raise for the many community programs it supports, a spokesman said, noting that all of the money stays in the community.
Friday night’s party and movie was the fifth and final night for the 2011 series.
