LANCASTER, Texas – The month of March will be an opportunity for library patrons who have late materials or accumulated overdue fines to bring canned goods to the library in lieu of paying fines. The “food fines” collected will be donated to the Lancaster Outreach Center to stock its pantry and assist with its programs.
Books, DVDs and other items that have not been returned on time may be returned along with one canned good for every week the item is past due – then monetary fines will be waived. If materials have already been returned but late fees were incurred, bring one canned good for every $2 owed.
Patrons may review the status of their library accounts on the Web site at www.LancasterTxLib.org.
Click “view your record,” then type the cardholder’s name and library card barcode number to view the list of materials checked out, fines owed, etc. The library staff can assist patrons in determining the status of their accounts when they visit the library.
Canned goods will not be accepted as payment for lost or damaged materials.
The Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library is located at 1600 Veterans Memorial Parkway in Lancaster Community Park. For further information and directions, see the library Web site at www.LancasterTxLib.org or call the library at 972-227-1080.
