Tickets are on sale for the third annual Jazz Café, featuring the Waxahachie Jazz Orchestra and Combo, on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Waxahachie Civic Center.

“As in the past years, we are very privileged to have several guest musicians joining us,” said Rich Armstrong, director of Waxahachie ISD bands. “Keith Davis, a former graduate of Waxahachie High School, will join us on both the saxophone and the upright bass. His brother, James Davis of the Glenn Miller Band and James Davis Quintet has agreed to add his phenomenal trumpet playing to the band as well. Both of these gentlemen are direct products of WHS and we are very privileged to have their talent contributions for Jazz Café’.”

A new addition to the program will be the Music Theatre Singers from Cedar Valley College under the direction of Dr. Sam Germany. The group of eight accomplished singers is now in its 15th year of presenting top quality musical theatre productions and creating a legacy of excellence not only at Cedar Valley College, but in the surrounding areas.

The sounds of classic 1940s big band music along with the timeless melodies and harmonies of this unique era, one of the signature features of this group, will be highlighted at the Jazz Café.

Once again this year, one of the features of Jazz Café will be the silent auction with items designed especially for this event.

Attendees will be bidding on an autographed photo of Dallas Mavericks’ star Jerry Stackhouse, two tickets to the opening night of the Dallas Summer Musicals’ presentation of “The Wedding Singer” and a performance by the WHS Jazz Combo as well as numerous other items.

All proceeds from this event go directly into the WISD band program, benefiting all students in band in grades six through 12.

“A $25 ticket will guarantee an elegant dinner followed by decadent desserts and coffee,” Armstrong added. “Then around 8 p.m., the Jazz Orchestra will take the stage and provide music perfect for dancing  — big band, swing and even a salsa number or two.

“And, of course, don’t forget the Music Theatre Singers will be entertaining us as well,” he said.

Tickets for the Jazz Café are available  through Jan. 31 at Bealls, Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, Waxahachie Daily Light, WHS band office, WISD administration building and Waxahachie Veterinary Clinic.
