The troops have a new partner back home.
Prosperity Bank is partnering with Treats for Troops as a drop-off point for care packages to be sent to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan..
The staffers will be picking up on a national trend – wearing red on Fridays to show support for troops in the Middle East.
“We wanted to do something for the troops. These young men and women have given so much to our country, and we take it for granted,” said banking center president Cathie Morales.
“We wanted to give something back, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Treats for Troops of Ellis County founder and organizer Harriett Adams was pleased with the offer of help.
“We’re hoping Fridays can be a special day for people to remember the troops and drop donations off at Prosperity Bank and the Waxahachie Daily Light,” Adams said.
First project on deck is the Treats for Troops Valentine packages, to be stocked with sweet Valentine messages and homemade cookies. The plan is to ship the packages on Feb. 3.
“This is rapidly approaching, and we need to remind people we will all be at First Christian, 805 West Baldridge , all day this coming Sunday, Feb. 1, to take monetary donations, hand written Valentines, store-bought Valentines and homemade cookies to ship out next week,” Adams said.
Prosperity Bank has also volunteered to partner with Treats for Troops for the Easter shipment, and to be a drop-off for donated items. That is just around the corner, Adams said.
“We want to push Easter collection from Feb. 16 through March 27 because Easter comes on April 12 this year and we will need to ship no later than Tuesday, March 31,” Adams said.
Additional shipments are scheduled for the July 4 holiday and the Christmas season (Thanksgiving.)
In addition to Valentines and homemade cookies, donations for mailing are needed. Call 972-878-2400.
