ENNIS — A campaign is under way to begin fundraisers for the new Ennis Veterans Memorial Park, which will be located at 2301 Ennis Parkway.

Ennis native Larry Fincher, a veteran and chairman of the Ennis Veterans Memorial Committee, explained some of the proposed layout of the memorial.

“We’re hoping the first phase of construction will be completed by May 2012,” he said. “It will be a wall containing names of veterans from here that served in World War I, World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and War on Terror. It will have a five-point star in the center of the plaza with an emblem of each branch of the service. It will also contain a section displaying those service men and women that were prisoners of war and missing in action.”

Fincher said the committee is offering Ennis residents an opportunity to purchase a custom engraved paver to honor any veteran or active service member, from any state, for his or her service to the country. Pavers will be placed in the Ennis Veterans Memorial Park.

The price is $125 for the first paver and $100 for each additional paver when ordering multiple pavers in one order. Pavers may be purchased by submitting cash, cashier’s check or personal check. Make checks payable to Ennis Veterans Memorial Committee. To mail a paver order form with payment, send to Ennis Veterans Memorial Committee, P.O. Box 8228, Ennis, TX 75120.
