College Financial Aid Workshop to be held at WHS

Do you need money for college? Counselors will assist Waxahachie High School seniors and their parents in filling out the Federal Application for Financial Aid at a workshop to be held in the WHS library from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 21. 

Participants will need to bring their 2010 federal tax information. The applications will be completed online. 

“Please apply for a PIN number from www.pin.ed.gov as soon as possible,” a spokesman said. “Hope to see you on Feb. 21.” For more information, contact the WHS counseling department at 972-923-4600.

Project Graduation meetings

The Project Graduation committee has announced its schedule for upcoming meetings. All senior WHS and WGH parents, as well as anyone in the community interested in helping out with this year’s event are encouraged to attend.

Project Graduation meetings will be held at the Waxahachie High School Cafeteria at 7 p.m. Feb. 21, March 21, April 18, May 9 and May 23.

Fire rating workshop

A meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, to discuss the Insurance Services Office fire rating in Ellis County. The meeting will be held on the second floor of the historic Ellis County Courthouse in Waxahachie.

The meeting will be presented by Jesse Williams, the PPC oversight officer from the State Fire Marshall’s Office, and Philip Bradley, ISO Customer Service. They will discuss how ISO fire ratings are determined and what a community or neighborhood can do to receive a more favorable rating.

The public is invited to attend.

Ms. Red Oak Pageant

The 2011 Ms. Red Oak Pageant will be held Saturday, Feb. 26. The annual fundraiser benefits the Project Success Drug Education Program. This year the theme is “Red Oak Goes Hollywood.”

The pageant will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Red Oak Performing Arts Center; tickets can be purchased at the gate, which opens at 5 p.m. with the playing of a Hero Named George video at 5:30 p.m.

Purchase pre-sale tickets at any campus for $2 students, $4 adults. At the gate, tickets are $4 students, $6 adults. Children younger than 4 or seniors 65 and older admitted free; ROISD gold card holders admitted free. Food and drinks will not be allowed nor sold due to the event location.
