No WISD election
As a reminder, Waxahachie ISD will not hold a school board trustee election this year. This is due to only two candidates running unopposed for the two vacant positions. Those candidates will be sworn into office after election deadlines are met.

CiCi’s Pizza benefit
Show support for the Italy Gladiator Regiment Band and join members at CiCi’s Pizza in Waxahachie on Thursday, May 5, for a fundraising event.
Band supporters are asked to put their receipt in a specially-marked box located near the register. The band, in return, receives 10 percent of the sales from each receipt placed in the box between 5 and 9 p.m.
The Regiment Band has won numerous awards over the last few years under the direction of Jesus Perez, band director. The band is raising funds for a trip to Florida at the end of the school year.
A candidates forum for the city of Ennis will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Ennis Housing Authority community room, 300 Arnold St.
Candidates and incumbents for city offices have been invited.

Family Fun and Fitness Day at PHS
Palmer ISD will host a Family Fun and Fitness Day on May 7 at the Palmer High School Football Stadium. Events will include Palmer Dog Jog 5K and 1-mile walk or run. Following the run there will be a health fair with several fitness demonstrations.
The 5K and one mile walk or run will begin at 8:30 a.m. with health and fitness events following from 9:30-11:30. There will be free immunizations and health screenings, games, prizes and giveaways.

The second annual Maypearl Gospelfest will take place from 3-8 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Lakeview Camp and Conference Center, 5128 Farm-to-Market 66 in Waxahachie.
This year’s event will include performances by The Cross Country Band, The Buddy & Tina Wright Group, Mike Culpepper, The Ranchhands, Baggy Bottom Boys and the Shepherd’s Quartet.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the event and concessions will be available for purchase. Gospelfest-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of live country gospel music.
The event is open to everyone and requested donations are $20 per family or $5 per person, but no one will be turned away.

Evening of Art scholarship fundraiser
The public is invited to an evening of art in memory of Shelley Nance from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Ellis County Art Museum, 501 W. Main St. in Waxahachie. Proceeds will benefit the Shelley Nance Memorial Art Scholarship Fund.
Support group meets Sunday
Family and professional caregiver support group meets from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 8, in the class room of Ennis Regional Medical Center.
This group is a no-fee group with ties to the Alzheimer’s Association support groups and is hospital affiliated.
Project Graduation meetings
The Project Graduation committee has announced its schedule for upcoming meetings.
All senior WHS and WGH parents, as well as anyone in the community interested in helping out with this year’s event are encouraged to attend.
Project Graduation meetings will be held at the Waxahachie High School cafeteria at 7 p.m. May 9 and May 23.
