accepting applications for craft fair

Waxahachie’s Sunshine Committee is accepting applications for the fourth annual Pre-Christmas Craft Fair. The craft fair will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Waxahachie High School. Historical trunk missing

On the morning of Thursday, Aug. 18, an old Army trunk was removed from the sidewalk on the south side of Midlothian City Hall. 

The trunk was sitting next to two filing cabinets awaiting pickup by the Midlothian Area Historical Society. 

If you mistakenly thought these items were put out as trash and you removed the trunk, would you please return it to City Hall inside the building.

Utility bill assistance

Community Services Inc., which is based in Corsicana, Texas, is offering help with high-energy bills. An application is required; no faxed applications will be accepted.

Community Services Inc. serves Anderson, Collin, Denton, Ellis, Henderson, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, Rockwall and Van Zandt counties.

Barton to speak at chamber luncheon

U.S. Rep. Joe Barton will provide a legislative update at the August business luncheon for the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce at 11:30 Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Midlothian Conference Center.

Writing for Enjoyment group to meet

Writing for Enjoyment will meet from 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at First United Methodist Church, 600 Daubitz Drive in Red Oak.

Teen Inc. to make paper boxes at Sims

Teen Inc. will make paper boxes to store odds and ends from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Nicholas P. Sims Library.

Boxes are constructed from old magazines.

The activity is for ages 11-18. Snacks provided.

Friday Book Club to meet

The Friday Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the Ellis County Woman’s Building. “This is the first meeting of the new year and all members are urged to attend,” a spokesman said.

WFD blood drive Sept. 9

The Waxahachie Fire Department will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at Sims Library, 515 W. Main St.

While walk-ins are welcome, donors may make an appointment by going to www.redcrossblood.org and using the sponsor code “waxahachiefire.”

Blood drive Sept. 10

Carter Blood Center and the Ennis Masonic Lodge No. 369 are teaming together to hold a blood drive.

The  blood drive will be held  between the hours of 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturday,  Sept. 10, at Ennis Walmart.

All donors will receive a T-shirt  for their donation. 

9/11 Dedication and Remembrance at Hope Clinic

Hope Clinic will remember those who were tragically killed on 9/11 by dedicating a flag pole in memory of those who fell and those who fought to save them at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, in the clinic courtyard, 411 E. Jefferson St. in Waxahachie.

“Please join us as we honor the past, pray for present first responders and hope for the future of our community and country,” a spokesman said.
