Choctaw trip for Senior Center
Come join the fun, leaving for Choctaw with the Waxahachie Senior Center on Aug. 4. Buses will start loading at the center at 7 a.m. and leave at 7:30 a.m. sharp. Buses will load to return to the center at 2:30 p.m. and leave at 3 p.m. sharp.
NARFE group to meet Aug. 9
National Active and Retired Federal Employees Ellis-Navarro County Chapter 1191 will meet Tuesday, Aug. 9 in Corsicana at Sirloin Stockade at 11:30 a.m.
A representative from Corsicana Emergency Medical Corps will bring the program. All active and retired federal employees, spouses and guests are invited to attend.
Pet Show at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library will host its annual pet show from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Proud pet owners, ages 4-10, have a prize winning opportunity to show off their animal favorites at Sims Library. The show is open to all breeds and species. Categories in this contest include biggest, cutest, friendliest, most talented, scaliest, smallest, strangest and more. Ribbons and a Best in Show ribbon will be awarded to winning contestants. Family movie day at Palace Theater
When Are We Going Home Ministry will host a free family movie day for medically challenged, disabled or special needs individuals of any age. The event will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Palace Theater, 112 W. 6th Ave. in Corsicana.
The movie, “Breaking Free,” will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Bring your own snacks. The theater will be lighter and less volume to provide a good environment for guests with sensory disorders or autism. The event is sponsored by the Navarro Community Foundation.

induction at Navarro
The Navarro College Adult Education Program announces its GED Graduation and National Adult Education Honor Society Induction Ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in the Wolens Special Event Center on the Navarro College-Corsicana campus.

WHS band car wash
The Waxahachie Band will host a car wash from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the parking lot in front of the Waxahachie High School. Car wash is free, donations are accepted to raise funds for the band.
Historic 5K run for REACH
REACH council will host the Historic 5K Run at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at 109 S. Jackson St. in Waxahachie. Registration is $15 for kids under 12 and $25 for runners or walkers ages 12 and up. A late fee of $5 will be charged those registering on the day of the run. Proceeds from the event provide drug prevention programs for youth. Carnival at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library’s annual end of summer reading carnival will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 13. The carnival is sponsored by the Friends of Sims Library and is a wonderful celebration of reading that includes games and prizes for participants of the Texas Reading Club’s summer reading program. Participants receive carnival tickets to be utilized at the event and reading certificates for their accomplishments. Navarro College Adult Education
The Navarro College Adult Education Program will offer free ESL and GED classes in Ellis County. Classes begin Aug. 22 and end Dec. 16.
