Senior Center trip to Choctaw
The Waxahachie Senior Center will host a bus trip to Choctaw on Thursday, Sept. 22. The cost is $10 per person and must be paid by noon Friday, Sept. 9, along with completed WSC forms. Buses will start loading at 7 a.m. and will leave at 7:30 sharp. Buses will load for the return at 2:30 p.m. and will leave Choctaw at 3 p.m. sharp.
Genealogical society to meet Sept. 12
Ellis County Genealogical Society will meet at the Ellis County Woman’s Building at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12. The program topic “Was Your Ancestor A Fur Trader?” is to be presented by Lela Evans. She is a firm believer in lifelong learning and enjoys helping others discover the excitement of finding their own family history.
MHS College/Career night Sept. 13
Midlothian High School will host its annual College/Career Night from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the high school cafeteria.
This is an open invitation to all students and parents who are interested in college information. Representatives from a variety of colleges, universities, career institutions and military branches will be in attendance.
In conjunction with the College/Career Night, MHS will also host its annual Open House/Meet the Teacher from 6-6:45 p.m. where parents are invited to meet their student’s teachers and visit their classrooms.
NARFE meeting set for Sept. 13
National Active and Retired Federal Employees Ellis-Navarro counties chapter 1191 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Ennis at the Grand Ennis Buffet.
All active and retired federal employees, spouses and guests are invited.
The ReAssembly Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Ellis County Woman’s Building, 407 W. Jefferson, Waxahachie. Sponsored by the Shakespeare, Century, Garden, DAR and Mothers Clubs the luncheon is open to members and guests. Gaming at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library presents “Gaming at the Library” for ages 11-18 from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the library’s meeting room. “Test your skills on Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. Come play with old friends or make new ones. You have to experience Wii on the big projection screen. We have ‘Just Dance,’ ” a spokesman said.
Meals-on-Wheels 24th annual Golf Benefit set for Sept. 15
Meals-on-Wheels and its title sponsor, Community Bank, are set for the nonprofit organization’s 24th annual golf benefit, slated for Thursday, Sept. 15, at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Burleson.
Registration for the benefit is open and morning and afternoon tee times are still available. As in years passed, golfers can sign up for morning and afternoon flights.

There will be morning and afternoon shotgun starts at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, with the tournament following a four-player scramble format.
Each player’s entry fee includes green fee, ½ cart, a T-shirt, cold drinks and food throughout the day, plus chances at $5,000 in prizes.
This year’s golfer package includes two mulligans and two chances to win prizes such as sporting event tickets, airfare for two and many more.
Girl Scout membership drive
Girl Scouts are pleased to announce that the annual Girl Scout membership drive will take place from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at First United Methodist Church, 505 W. Marvin Ave. in Waxahachie.

Photo scavenger hunt at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library’s Teen Inc. is taking a walking field trip to the downtown square for a photo scavenger hunt from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21. Teens will take pictures from a prepared list. Bring a camera or cell phone with a camera. Participants must have a permission slip signed by a parent before event.

The Ellis County Friends of NRA will hold its banquet and auction Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Waxahachie Civic Center, 2000 Civic Center Lane in Waxahachie. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Carnival at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library’s annual end of summer reading carnival will be held from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 24. The carnival is sponsored by the Friends of Sims Library and is a wonderful celebration of reading that includes games and prizes for participants of the Texas Reading Club’s summer reading program. Participants receive carnival tickets to be utilized at the event and reading certificates for their accomplishments. This program is an outside event presented on the front lawn of the library as part of the Sims Library’s Texas Reading Club events. Teen Advisory Board at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library’s Teen Advisory Board will meet from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. The board allows teens to have a voice in teen services at the library. “You will be able to tell us what books, videos, CDs you would like to see at the library and help plan teen programs. We want to know what you are interested in.
Come join us for pizza at 5:45 in the meeting room,” a spokesman said. The board is for ages 13-18 and meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday.
