Donations sought to aid family

A benefit account has been established at Citizens National Bank of Texas to help the family pay funeral expenses for Danny Grogan, who died July 30 at his parents’ home in Waxahachie. The combat Navy veteran did not have life insurance. Any donations above the cost of the funeral will be donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Family Assistance Fund.

Utility bill assistance

Community Services Inc., which is based in Corsicana, Texas, is offering help with high-energy bills. An application is required; no faxed applications will be accepted.

4-H now enrolling for school year

The Red Oak 4-H Club is enrolling for the 2011-2012 school year. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. Immunization clinic

Texas Department of State Health Services holds monthly immunization clinics from 1:30-5:30 p.m. every first Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club, 1211 S. Clay in Ennis, and from 10-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. every second Tuesday at First Baptist Fellowship Hall, 304 W. 5th St. in Ferris. No clinics on holidays. For information, call 972-932-2038.

Ellis Christian Women’s Job Corps

Ellis Christian Women’s Job Corps, a Place of Grace, will begin its next session Aug. 22. Classes will include English taught by Jennifer Shipman and math taught by Jackie Goerig. The GED resources will enable students to prepare for the test. Scholarship funds are available to assist with testing fees.

Additional curriculum includes typing and computer classes – Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint – classes in money management, career focus, resume writing, communication, life enrichment and family skills. All materials are provided free as well as a continental breakfast and lunch each day. Classes meet for 16 weeks from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Barton to speak at chamber luncheon
