Agenda item on sludge postponed
An informational presentation/public comment time relating to human sludge that was slated for the Feb. 28 meeting of the Ellis County Commissioners Court has been postponed.
“We apologize for the inconvenience of rescheduling this agenda item,” Pct. 3 Commissioner Heath Sims said, saying he expects the item to be placed on the court’s March 28 agenda.
Sims had requested the agenda item as a result of concerns expressed by local residents about the material being placed on local lands.
Scheduled speakers will include the company that is hauling the material and a representative of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Cancer support group to meet
A newly-formed cancer support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Waxahachie Bible Church.
The meeting is open to all cancer patients and their families. The group is being led by Diane Alford.
Do Well Be Well – Diabetes
Do you need an education on diabetes? Do you need nutrition education? A program for people with type 2 diabetes will be held on Wednesdays, March 2, March 9, March 23 and March 30. The programs will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Waxahachie Senior Center, 122 Park Hills Drive.

Urban Wildscape Program
Jessica Alderson, urban wildlife biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, will present a program on Urban Wildscapes sponsored by the Indian Trail Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists.
The meeting will be held at First United Methodist Church, 505 W. Marvin Ave. in Waxahachie at 7 p.m. Monday Feb. 28. The program is part of a series of Master Naturalist programs offered from 7-8 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month.

Ellis County cleanup week
Beginning March 1, Ellis County commissioners will have a limited number of vouchers to distribute toward its next weeklong cleanup event in March starting Saturday, March 26, and running through Saturday, April 2.
Ellis County residents will be able to dispose of household trash, furniture, mattresses, yard debris and other similar items – as well as a limited number of passenger tires and e-waste items — at no cost to participants.

Sunbeam Club to meet
The Sunbeam Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, to make plans for the End of the Line Reunion to be held April 29-30. The whistle will blow to start the meeting at 11:30 a.m. at the Ennis Family Restaurant and Truck Stop on S. Kaufman Street.
Family movie night at Sims Library
Nicholas P. Sims Library presents family movie night from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1. After super-villain Megamind kills his good-guy nemesis, Metro Man, he bocomes bored since there is no one left to fight. He creates a new foe, Titan, who, instead of using his powers for good, sets out to destroy the world, positioning Megamind to save the day for the first time in his life. Free children’s fire safety program
Children from age 3-8 years old are invited to attend a free fire safety program with “Freddy the Fire Safety Robot” presented by the Waxahachie Fire Department and sponsored by the Waxahachie Mothers Club. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This program is geared to young children and is often presented in school rooms. Those who are home schooled or not yet in school are welcome to attend the presentation in the Ellis County Woman’s Building at 407 W. Jefferson St., Waxahachie. Maypearl ISD pre-K/Kindergarten Roundup 2011-2012
Lorene Smith Kirkpatrick Elementary School will conduct pre-K and Kindergarten Roundup at the elementary campus on March 8 and 9 between the hours of 8-11:30 a.m. or 1-3 p.m. Pre-K students must be 4 years of age on or before Sept. 1 and qualify in one of the following areas:
Eligible for the free or reduced lunch program based on proof of income; Live in a home where English is the second language; Determined other health impaired; Live with a foster family; Parent or parents are currently serving in the military
Pre-K will only offer a 4-year-old program and will be half day. Transportation will not be provided for pre-K students. Kindergarten students must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1.
The following information will be required at the time of enrollment:
Proof of residency in the form of a utility bill with name and physical address; State-certified birth certificate; Social security card; Current immunization; Copy of parent driver license.
Parents may or may not have students accompany them to roundup since all screening will be done at the beginning of the next school year.
Neither program is mandatory; however, once a student is enrolled they are subject to attendance guidelines as outlined by state compulsory attendance regulations.
