Mattie Borders birthday celebration
The community is invited to celebrate with Mattie Borders as she celebrates her 99th birthday.
From 10 a.m. - noon, Friday, Aug. 26, there will be a reception for her at Citizens National Bank of Texas, 200 N. Elm St.
Her birthday will also be celebrated from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at Samaria Baptist Church, 508 Martin Luther King.

Historical trunk missing
On the morning of Thursday, Aug. 18, an old Army trunk was removed from the sidewalk on the south side of Midlothian City Hall.† The trunk was sitting next to two filing cabinets awaiting pickup by the Midlothian Area Historical Society.†
If you mistakenly thought these items were put out as trash and you removed the trunk, would you please return it to City Hall inside the building.
Donations sought to aid family
A benefit account has been established at Citizens National Bank of Texas to help the family pay its funeral expenses for Danny Grogan, who died July 30 at his parentsí home in Waxahachie. The combat Navy veteran did not have life insurance. Any donations above the cost of the funeral will be donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Family Assistance Fund.

Community Services Inc., which is based in Corsicana, Texas, is offering help with high-energy bills. An application is required; no faxed applications will be accepted.

4-H now enrolling for school year
The Red Oak 4-H Club is enrolling for the 2011-2012 school year. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. The enrollee must be 9 years old or in the third grade through the age of 18. There are many projects available.

Texas Department of State Health Services holds monthly immunization clinics from 1:30-5:30 p.m. every first Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club, 1211 S. Barton to speak at chamber luncheon
U.S. Rep. Joe Barton will provide a legislative update at the August business luncheon for the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce at 11:30 Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Midlothian Conference Center.
