Donations sought to aid family
A benefit account has been established at Citizens National Bank of Texas to help the family pay funeral expenses for Danny Grogan, who died on July 30 at his parent’s home in Waxahachie. The combat Navy veteran did not have life insurance. Any donations above the cost of the funeral will be donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Family Assistance Fund.

Community Services Inc., which is based in Corsicana, Texas, is offering help with high-energy bills. An application is required; no faxed applications will be accepted.

NARFE group to meet Aug. 9
National Active and Retired Federal Employees Ellis-Navarro County chapter 1191 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, in Corsicana at Sirloin Stockade.
A representative from Corsicana Emergency Medical Corps will bring the program.
All active and retired federal employees, spouses and guests are invited to attend.
ROPD citizens police academy
RED OAK — Residents who live or work in Red Oak are invited to apply for the next session of the Citizens Police Academy.
The registration deadline is Dec. 31 for the course, which will begin Thursday, Feb. 10.
The Citizens Police Academy is a free educational program that familiarizes the public with the nature of police work.
People who live or work in Red Oak are invited to apply. They must agree to a background criminal history check, be 20 years old or older and not convicted of a felony.
Eleven classes will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays, with one class from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The academy meets at the Red Oak public safety building, 547 N. Methodist St., Red oak.

Midlothian immunization clinic
Caring for Children Foundation of Texas will hold a free immunization clinic from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Midlothian ISD, 100 Walter Stephenson Road.
All recommended and required vaccines will be provided by Texas Vaccine for Children Program (Medicaid CHIP, those who have no insurance or have insurance that does not cover vaccines or well care. Parents should bring all of their children’s immunization records and the child must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
Project Graduation 2012 to meet
Project Graduation 2012 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Park Meadows Baptist Church, 3350 U.S. Highway 77 North in Waxahachie.

WHS band car wash
The Waxahachie Band will host a car wash from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the parking lot in front of the Waxahachie High School. Car wash is free, donations are accepted to raise funds for the band.
Historic 5K run for REACH
REACH council will host the Historic 5K Run at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at 109 S. Jackson St. in Waxahachie. Registration is $15 for kids under 12 and $25 for runners or walkers ages 12 and up. A late fee of $5 will be charged those registering on the day of the run. Proceeds from the event provide drug prevention programs for youth. Navarro College Adult Education
The Navarro College Adult Education Program will offer free ESL and GED classes in Ellis County. Classes begin Aug. 22 and end Dec. 16.

Master gardeners rain barrel class
The Ellis County Master Gardeners Association will present a class on rainwater harvesting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Parks and Recreation Building, 401 S. Elm in Waxahachie. Register in person at Waxahachie City Hall, 401 S. Rogers, in the utility billing department downstairs.
Cost is $30 per person with all materials being provided.
