American Majority training March 12

The Ellis county tea party is hosting the American Majority as they present a training session for grassroots activists and another session for those that may be interested in becoming a candidate for an elected office.

The training will be held on Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the LaQuinta Inn located at 311 Stadium Drive in Waxahachie. Activist training will include a study of the political system as it is, how we got here, and what we can do about it; changing the political power structure one precinct at a time; and how to harness the social networks to further the cause. This session runs until 1 p.m. and a box lunch will be provided. In addition to the activist training, candidate training will include fundraising methods, creating your message, and getting out the vote for election day.

Classical guitar concert at Sims Library

Stacy Arnold, head of Classical Guitar Studies at Navarro College, will perform a classical guitar concert from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Nicholas P. Sims Library Lyceum, 515 W. Main, Waxahachie. Admission is free. A sought after solo performer and teacher, Arnold holds a master’s of music degree from Southern Methodist University. He has been a featured performer with the Waxahachie Symphony Association, City Arts Festival in Dallas, Frisco Arts Festival and the West Fest Musical Festival.

Czech Heritage Society

The Ellis County chapter of the Czech Heritage Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the KJT dining room. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and members are invited to bring snacks and enjoy a time of visitation before the spring meeting.

President Vic Havel’s agenda will cover the Czech language course taught by Joe Janecka; the spring state meeting in Schulenburg, Texas, on Saturday, April 9; the annual Family and Youth Day in New Dubina, Texas, on April 30; and Czech historical documents available for genealogy research.

After the meeting, a Czech movie “The Country Teacher,” a 2008 film with English subtitles, will be shown.

This film won Best Actress and Best Cinematography at the 2008 Stockholm Film Festival.

Members are invited to bring guests and anyone interested is invited to join.

Spring break horsemanship camp

A fun, spring break adventure with horses is offered at Flying G Ranch for youth ages 6-17. Horsemanship day camps are offered on a daily signup basis for $30 per day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 14-18.

Extended time is available for early drop-off or later pickup. Overnight camp with evening riding and campfires are offered as well.

Flying G Ranch is a 120-acre nonprofit Christian horse camp facility started in 2001. Other activities include time learning about horses, brushing, saddling and bridling, group trail rides, group games, crafts and Bible devotions.
