Spring break horsemanship camp

A fun, spring break adventure with horses is offered at Flying G Ranch for youth ages 6-17. Horsemanship day camps are offered on a daily signup basis for $30 per day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 14-18. Extended time is available for early drop-off or later pickup. Overnight camp with evening riding and campfires are offered as well.

Flying G Ranch is a 120-acre nonprofit Christian horse camp facility started in 2001. Other activities include time learning about horses, brushing, saddling and bridling, group trail rides, group games, crafts and Bible devotions.

Relay For Life meeting

Relay For Life Central Ellis County will hold a team captain’s meeting on March 17 at the Red Oak Municipal Center, 200 Lakeview Parkway in Red Oak. If you would like to register a team, join a team or need more information regarding Relay, contact team chair Denise Owens at 972-742-3982.

Ride for Emotional Healing

Freedom Counseling Associates, a nonprofit organization, invites all bikers to particpate in the first annual Ride for Emotional Healing fun ride to provide counseling services for individuals who have experienced trauma and to reach people struggling with emotional pain and darkness.

Rain or shine, the ride will take place March 19 with first bike out at 10 a.m. and last bike in at 2 p.m. Passports will be given to each participant to collect stamps along the route, four stickers, which will give chances to win several prizes. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, food, music and much more.

SPCA volunteer orientation

The Ellis County SPCA will hold a volunteer orientation at noon Saturday, March 19, at its facility, 2570 Farm-to-Market 878, Waxahachie.

Volunteer applications are available online or at the shelter during the meeting.

“It is not mandatory to attend a meeting before you volunteer, but it is extremely helpful if you can make it and it’s a good opportunity for you to get your name tag ordered if you haven’t already,” a spokesman said. “As we grow, we have many new and exciting programs being added and we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meeting.”

Volunteers must be 18 years old to volunteer at the shelter unless they are with a parent or guardian but we there are special opportunities for high school aged kids to help with as long as their parents approve.

Ellis County Tea Party to meet

The Ellis County Tea Party will host its next monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on March 19 at the LaQuinta Inn, at 311 Stadium Drive in Waxahachie. After the normal business of the ECTP is concluded, a guest speaker has been invited to speak.

Larry Bell, a professor of space architecture at the University of Houston and author of “Climate of Corruption: Politics and Power Behind The Global Warming Hoax” will speak on the issue global warming. Using humor and criticism of the powers that use public money and policies, he deconstructs mainstream findings and the cause, consequence and severity of global warming.

Fountain dedication at FBC

A new granite fountain, sculpted by world renowned sculptor Jesus Moroles, will be dedicated at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, on the south lawn of First Baptist Church, Waxahachie.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into Epton Hall of the church.

The ceremony will last about 30 minutes and is open to the public. For further information, contact the church office at 972-937-1940.

Project Graduation meetings

The Project Graduation committee has announced its schedule for upcoming meetings. All senior WHS and WGH parents, as well as anyone in the community interested in helping out with this year’s event are encouraged to attend.

Project Graduation meetings will be held at the Waxahachie High School Cafeteria at 7 p.m. March 21, April 18, May 9 and May 23.

Aggie Moms to meet

Parent presentation at WHS

Waxahachie High School will host a parent presentation of the 2011-12 registration opportunities when the district returns from spring break. The meeting will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in the Fine Arts Center. The meeting is for all current ninth- through 11th-grade students. The following points will be covered:

• Overview of course offerings and new catalogue

• Graduation requirement updates and upcoming changes by state law

• AP/dual credit opportunities on our campus

• Differences in AP and dual credit courses

• Vocational and career technical opportunities

• Community service

Students will hear the same information March 22 and 23 during their English or history classes.
