Saturday, May 30 – Ellis County Treat for Troops-a-thon, drive-through complete chili cheese dog meal with soda and water, brownie, apple and chips and a patriotic surprise for $3 a plate.

Available from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, advanced ticket sales only, tickets available at Prosperity Bank, Ennis State Bank, Treats for Troops booth at National Polka Festival.

The Clothes of Closet of Trinity United Methodist Church of Ennis is open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The organization provides donated merchandise at no charge for those in need. Donations of items are welcome.

A new support group, affiliated with the Alzheimers Association and Ennis Regional Medical Center, is an all-volunteer, no-cost support group where people who love and help those with memory loss issues can find support.

Caregiver Support Group, hosted by Ennis Regional Medical Center.  All Caregivers caring for any disability are welcome.

June 2 – The Sunbeam Club will meet at Ennis IHOP for food, fun, fellowship.

The whistle will blow at 11:30 a.m. for all railroaders both active and retired, family members and friends of railroaders, and for those who love trains and would like to share with some real railroaders.

June 5-6 — “Window of Opportunity: a Czech Family Research Workshop” will be held June 5 and 6 at the Caldwell Civic/Visitor Center in Caldwell, Texas.

Sponsored by the Texas Czech Genealogical Society, the workshop will include speakers Leo Baca, Carroll Brincefield, Shon Edwards, John Gantt, Charlene Hurta, Patrick Janis, Dalibor Jerabek, Ted Kaspar, Doug Kubicek and Helen Jane Kopecky Wilson. Combined, the speakers will present 14 presentations.

Full registration is $65 if postmarked on or before May 25. After that, registration is $80, or $90 at the door. Single day registration is available.

Nicholas P. Sims Library in Waxahachie is filming conversations with Ellis County wartime veterans for the library DVD reference collection to share with future generations.
