Urban Griot at Lancaster Library
De Cee Cornish, the Urban Griot, will present stories and music for all ages at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library.
African drums will be on hand for a participatory learning experience as well as exciting entertainment.
These events are free of charge and open to the public.
The library is located at 1600 Veterans Memorial Parkway, in the Lancaster Community Park.

Red Oak ISD will host a grand opening for its new Red Oak High School athletic complex at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, with free hot dogs for those who attend.
The dedication ceremony will begin at 6, with softball and baseball games and tennis exhibitions to follow.
Bridal show in Red Oak
Red Oak Municipal Center will host its first Red Oak Bridal Show from noon-5 p.m. Sunday, March 15.
The community is invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by Weddings Etc., the city of Red Oak and Kinney Studios. Admission is $3. The event will include door prizes, vendor giveaways, cake and food tastings, bridal and tuxedo fashion show and bridal bazaar. More than 50 vendors will be on hand to present the latest in fashion, décor and wedding services.

St. Paul to hold Mardi Gras event Feb. 24
St. Paul Episcopal Church is gearing up for its 17th annual Mardi Gras.
The event is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the church, located at the corner of Ovilla Road and the U.S. Highway 287 Bypass.
The event has grown to include live music featuring the church’s own Lone Star Glory Band and dancing.
The menu will include fried catfish, gumbo, red beans and rice, salad, bread pudding served with Heidi Perkin’s whiskey sauce. Prices are $12 for adults, and $6 for children 5-10 years old.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes.
