The Waxahachie Symphony Association announces the opportunity for all Ellis County high school juniors and seniors to participate in the 2011-2012 Symphony Belles and Beaus Program.

The Symphony Belles and Beaus Program, one of several activities within the Waxahachie Symphony Association, is designed for those junior and senior students interested in developing an appreciation of the arts, community service and social/life skills.

The goal of the program is to offer fine arts related activities and experiences for young people, which will give them a comprehensive overview of life and social skills, music, arts, history and architecture while offering them an opportunity to give back to their community via service projects. The Symphony Belles and Beaus act as ambassadors, representing the Symphony Association throughout the community.

Each Belle and Beau will participate in an assortment of activities, including attending Waxahachie Symphony Association concerts, art appreciation seminars, service projects, social/life skills sessions and socials, which begin Sept. 10 at the first Symphony Association concert. The culmination of the program will be the presentation of the Belles and Beaus at a gala in their honor in May.

The Symphony Belles and Beaus Program is funded through a participation fee. For the 2011-2012 year, the feel will be $300, consisting of a $75 family Symphony Association subscription and a $225 Belles and Beaus participation fee. The fee covers the costs of all activities, as well as the gala ticket for the participating Belle or Beau.

An informational meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce, 102 YMCA Drive. Applications can be obtained at this meeting, at Waxahachie High School (after school starts) or by emailing

The deadline for registration and full payment is Sept. 2.
