ENNIS — With unemployment hovering at a steady 9.1 percent nationwide, getting on a fast track toward a decent job is foremost on the minds of millions of Americans.

TexACT Academy of Career Training, which is owned by Outreach Health Services, has a program that promises to get its clientele certified in at least three fields that have jobs available and plug them into decent-paying jobs in minimal time.

TexACT Academy of Career Training, which started up two years ago with academies in Killeen, Marble Falls and Wichita Falls, will soon open a fourth school in Ennis.

The director of the school, Holly Arbuckle of Conroe, Texas, explained the program.

“We are so excited to be opening our newest campus in Ennis,” she said. “TexACT is committed to assisting folks in changing their lives. Quality training, state certifications and job placement assistance is our formula for putting our students to work.”

Licensed by the Texas Workforce Commission, Academy of Career Training is required by law to ensure a minimum of 60 percent of its graduates find employment.

“We feel we will so much better,” Arbuckle said, saying that campuses are averaging a more than 86 percent employment rate for graduates. “The top jobs right now are certified nurse’s aides, pharmacy technicians and phlebotomists.”

Arbuckle said the health care field is the fastest growing sector of job growth nationwide and both CNAs and pharmacy techs are fast-growing, high-demand jobs in north Texas. Jobs are available throughout the area for qualified people, she said.

TexACT offers a payment plan for all students.

“We are committed to responsible financing of higher education in accordance with the US Department of Education’s Gainful Employment and Ability to Benefit mandates,” she said, saying TexACT is licensed by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability and the Texas Workforce Commission Career Schools Division.

Arbuckle said future programs are being considered including personal trainers, electrocardiogram techs and radiology techs.

An open house will be Sept. 1 for the Ennis facility, located at 805 ½ D Lake Bardwell, Ennis.
