WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, Wednesday issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s remarks in North Carolina regarding the economy:

“The President’s given his speechwriters plenty of work over the past five years; now it’s time for him to take the steps that will actually create jobs for Americans out of work.”

Sen. Cornyn has called on the President to take the following immediate steps to spur job creation:

• Approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would create thousands of well-paying middle-class jobs here in the United States.

• Eliminate all regulations that don’t pass a simple cost/benefit test. A new study shows that in 2013 alone, the Obama Administration imposed more than $112 billion dollars’ worth of net regulatory costs on the U.S. economy, and added the equivalent of nearly 158 million hours of paperwork.

•Work with Congress to repeal the Obamacare employer mandate, which has caused many Americans to have their jobs reduced from full-time to part-time.
