Waxahachie Bible Church will start accepting donations for it’s annual After Christmas Giveaway starting Monday, Jan. 13. The giveaway will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 18 in the church's sanctuary. The event is free to the public and the church is located at 621 N. Grand Ave. in Waxahachie.
“This will be our fourth year for the After Christmas Giveaway, and anyone interested in donating items can drop off food, clothing, books, housewares, electronics and small furniture; pretty much anything that you would have in a garage sale, except large items like couches or refrigerators,” Event Coordinator Rebecca Manguno said. “If they are interested in using it for a tax write-off we do have forms that they can use for their taxes this next year.”
Items can be dropped off at the church office from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Jan. 13-16. No large items will be accepted including: refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers.
Those wishing to “shop” at the giveaway and receive items donated will be asked to fill out a registration card the day of the event. Shoppers will enter the auditorium in groups and are allowed to re-enter multiple times to pick out items. However, each person will only be allowed to select 20 adult items and 10 children's items on their first pass through.
Manguno said the inspiration for the drive came from the lessons being taught by Senior Pastor Bruce Zimmerman out of 1 John 3:16-18. In the passage it talks about Christ’s love he demonstrated to all of mankind by giving up his life. It also speaks about people helping others who have needs and showing Christ's love through giving.
Volunteers and church members will sort the items throughout the week, and the church is encouraging those anyone who wishes to volunteer to contact the church at 972-937-9590. Manguno said anyone with questions about how or what to donate can contact the church office at the same phone number.
Following the giveaway items that were not taken by shoppers will be donated to local non-profit organizations.
