Ernest Wayne “Tooter” Camp of Ferris passed away, Jan. 1, 2014 surrounded by his family at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
Ernest was born in Waxahachie to Ernest J. and Fredna P. Bateman Camp as an only child.
Ernest and Cleo Davis were married on Dec. 21, 1956 at Bailey Heights Baptist Church in Dallas. Ernest started and served as a police officer in 1958 for Corsicana and Ennis Departments, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, and retired as the Chief of Police of Palmer in 1998. He loved his family, western movies and football. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cleo Camp; daughter, Debbie Martinek; two sons, Tommy Camp and Tim and his wife Becky Camp. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Derek Martinek, Ambre Camp, Donese Martinek, Sammie Jo Alcaraz, Ashton Camp, Morgan Camp and Taylor Camp; and three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Gunner and Annie.
Ernest is also survived by many cousins and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Dennis Martinek.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at Green Funeral Home, 207 S. Wood St. in Ferris. Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at Green Funeral Home, with Rodney Rickman officiating. Interment to follow at Maypearl Cemetery in Maypearl.
Pallbearers include: Epi Garfias, Bruce Gorman, John Hancock, Randy Kelly, Mike Norman, Frank Parham, Randy Rider, Ric Yarber. Honorary pallbearers include: Jeff Cottongame, Fred Pontley.
