Wendy Bratcher DeWeese

Feb. 9, 1962 –

Dec. 29, 2013

Wendy Bratcher DeWeese, 51, was received into the hands of God on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 in Dallas.

Wendy was born on Feb. 9, 1962 in Waxahachie to Ernest and Frances Bratcher. She grew up being an active member of Farley Street Baptist Church, which formed the bedrock of her deeply held faith in the Lord. She was also an active participant in the founding of Heritage Baptist Church.

Wendy earned a Bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University, majoring in Secondary Education, with a minor in English and History. After college, she joined what ultimately came to be named Republic Underwriters Insurance Co. in Dallas, where she made a career for over 22 years. While employed there, she earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, which is held by just over 2 percent of all those employed in the insurance industry in the U.S.

Her family and friends were her life. Wendy said that one of her fondest early memories was listening to the dominoes clinking together as her parents, aunts and uncles played 42. She was so happy when she was finally old enough to join in. Family gatherings and holidays, especially Christmas, were Wendy’s most favorite times. Wendy’s memory for names, dates and how people were connected to each other was legendary to many that knew her. She rarely had to rely on a calendar to know whose birthday was coming up, and many relied on her as the family historian (especially her in-laws). She had an amazing ability to organize and loved hosting, regardless of the number of attendees. She always put the needs and desires of those she cared about ahead of her own, and her absence will leave a hole that can never be filled. She was preceded in death by her daddy, Ernest “Son” Bratcher; and mother-in-law, Claudia DeWeese of Waxahachie.

Survivors: Her husband of 27 years, Kirk DeWeese of Midlothian; mother, Frances Bratcher of Waxahachie; sister, Pamela Montgomery and husband Dale of Waxahachie; nephew Scott Smith and wife Sherry; great-niece and nephew Emily and Carson Smith; brother-in-law, Scott DeWeese and wife Laura and nephew and niece Kevin and Julia of Sunset Hills, Mo.; niece, Terri Smith; and daddy-in-law Jack DeWeese and wife Nancy of Cedar Hill; and multitudes of cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan 3 and funeral services will commence at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan 4. Both will be held at the Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie. Interment will be at the Lake View Cemetery in Waxahachie
