Ferris Avenue is home to one of Waxahachie newest burger restaurants. Jake’s Wayback Burgers opened its doors in August providing customers with an inviting atmosphere and a simple but tasty burger.

“I was looking for a burger place and I found this one. They are a chain up north. Their home base is in Connecticut and they have restaurants in New York and Pennsylvania,” Jake’s Wayback Burgers Owner James Cook said. “I brought it to Texas because I love the burger.”

Cook said Jake’s features hand dipped milkshakes and homemade vanilla bean ice cream. The hamburgers are never frozen and are always made fresh on larger butter buns. Two of the most popular items on the menu are the Double Bacon Jake and the Cheeezy Burger.

The Double Bacon Jake features four slices of bacon, American cheese and is topped with the customer’s choice of vegetables. Some of the other toppings  patrons may place on their burgers include sweet peppers and jalapenos. Each month, apart from Jake’s regular menu items, customers can order the burger or milkshake of the month. Other items on the menu include sandwiches, hotdogs and freshly tossed salads.

Jake’s prides itself on providing the best service to customers who come into the restaurant for a meal.

“Customers expect friendly service and they can expect a smile on their face. They can expect a hot and fresh burger that is good food and a good time,” Cook said. “They can come watch their favorite sporting event on our TV or sit back and relax. I think that we have a great atmosphere here.”

One of the burgers the restaurant is known for is the Tipple, Triple Burger. This burger features nine beef patties, nine slices of cheese and is topped with lettuce and tomato.

On Oct. 12 Jake’s will be having a contest to see who can eat a Triple, Triple the fastest. People interested in taking part in the contest can come by the restaurant to sign up. Burgers will not be supplied by the restaurant and will have to be paid for by the customer. The first place winner will be given a $100, the second place winner will be given $50 and the third place winner will be given $25. The deadline to sign up for the contest is Oct. 11.

Cook said in previous contests held at other Jake’s restaurants the record for eating a Triple, Triple is one minute and 32 seconds.

In connection with the contest there will be a bounce house set up and face painting for the kids. There will also be a cakewalk. The proceeds from the event will go to help benefit the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce.
