Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched at 9:05 p.m. Sept. 25, to the 400 block of Lark Lane, Red Oak, in reference to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon arrival, deputies observed several people outside and an adult male on the ground.

According to a press release issued by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, witnesses told deputies that an argument/altercation had occurred between two males and one of the men was stabbed.

A Red Oak man, identified as Randy Duane Smith, 50, was taken into custody at the scene and booked into Wayne McCollum Detention Center on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $75,000.

The victim, a 41-year-old Red Oak resident, was transported in stable condition by EMS to a Dallas hospital.
