The Waxahachie cross country team continues to progress as the season gets closer to the district meet.

Last week, the Indian runners took part in the Marcus II Invitational Meet and three of the Lady Indian runners set new personal records.

Tierney Thomison, Ashton Strange and Caymee Bigham all had their fastest times this year and their coach thinks they can improve on those times some more.

“They are ready to break through next week and have even better times,” Waxahachie cross country coach Edward De La Cruz said. “This is where the top runners really start cutting down times. They will have hard practices this week to prepare to do that.”

The varsity boys runners came in third out of seven 1A-4A teams that competed. The varsity girls runners came in fourth of the five 4A teams at the Marcus meet.

The boys junior varsity team came in third out of the seven 4A teams at the race. The girls JV team finished first out of the two 4A teams that competed.

De La Cruz thinks the boys runners will be able to hit their personal records next meet, which is Saturday in Ennis for the Lion’s Den Invitational.
