To the Editor,
We all know the importance of the oil and gas industry to Texas and how this industry affects Waxahachie. Thankfully, we have a leader in Austin who understands it as well – state Rep. Jim Pitts.
His work as Chairman of the Texas House Committee on Appropriations was critical to ensuring the Texas Railroad Commission, the state agency charged with regulating the oil and gas industry, was fully funded. As oil and natural gas production technology evolves, so should the Commission’s Information Technology operations. With Representative Pitts’ leadership, we can be certain that Texas regulators can keep up with the ever-growing demands of this booming economic driver. This is good news for the industry, the state coffers and Waxahachie.
Jim stated at a recent meeting, “The best way to grow our economy is to invest in our infrastructure, our children’s education and our future,” He noted that the “little money” added into the state’s budget came in part from the 29 straight months of increased sales tax revenue. Though consumers were out shopping, the majority of the revenue came from the oil and gas industry, State Representative Pitts stated that Ellis County was “doing it right!”
Representative Pitts continually demonstrated sound, fiscally-minded policies that kept our state moving in the right direction. My hat is off to him for his leadership, and we are grateful for his service to the area and throughout the state of Texas. He will be missed and we wish him all the best.
