FORRESTON – An accident involving a Freightliner tractor-trailer and a Hyundai Genesis claimed the life of Maria Shon Kim, 54, of Coppell about 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 18.

The accident happened on northbound Interstate Highway 35E a half-mile from the 391 mile marker near Forreston, according to the report released Monday by the  Texas Department of Public Safety.

Trooper Adam Constancio said the Hyundai was traveling northbound at the time of the accident when it drove onto the improved shoulder. When that happened the Hyundai ran into a parked semi-truck.

“The truck had stopped because (the driver) had heard a noise on his truck and was going to check it. He had parked and was getting ready to exit his vehicle when the accident occurred,” Constancio said. “The driver of the truck had never made it out of his vehicle and was still in the cab when the accident happened.”

The driver of the truck, Eldridge Cullivan, 54, of Mesquite, drives for Schneider National. Cullivan was treated for minor injuries and released by paramedics at the scene.

Kim was taken by Air Evac medical helicopter to Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie, where she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. Emergency crews were on scene for about two hours before clearing the call.

An investigation of the accident is still on going at this time by DPS.
