The Ovilla Christian School Eagles took on Community Christian in Mineral Wells for its first official football game in school history Saturday night.
OCS took Community Christian down to the wire, but CC pulled out the 66-60 victory.The Eagles had previously defeated Carrollton Christian in their first scrimmage.†
An excited and pumped up crowd saw OCS take an early lead on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Fowler to Austin Thorn. Bradley Polley added the extra point and the Eaglesí first touchdown was in the books.†
Ovilla Christian added three more Thorn scores in the first half, along with a 77-yard scamper by senior Matt Humphrey on a reverse to take a 38-22 lead into the halftime locker room.
High-scoring, six-man football action continued in the second half as the teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. The Eagles scored on an Aaron Morales run and on a pass from Fowler to wingback Zach Fitch.†
The teams continued lighting up the scoreboard trading scores into the fourth quarter. Thorn Added another touchdown run for the Eagles. Community Christian created a few breaks in the fourth quarter by recovering an onside kick and a fumble deep in OCS territory.†
Those plays led to two late scores that allowed CC to overtake OCS with just a few minutes left on the clock and get the win.
Thorn led the ground game for OCS with 182 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns. Humphrey had just one carry, but it was the 77-yard touchdown. Morales ran four times for 62 yards.†
Fowler ran nine times for 56 yards. He also completed three of his five passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Two of his completions went to Thorn, who had 62 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bradley Polley tallied 12 points in extra point kicks.
Griffin Glenn defended eight onside kicks and returned two for 23 yards. He also recovered an onside kick for the Eagles.
Thorn had a 43-yard kickoff return.Morales recorded the first interception in school history on defense.
Zach Fitch flew all over the field and had 14 tackles. Humphrey added 10 tackles, while Glenn added nine more. Lucas Chester forced a fumble and Cole Harris recovered it.
