The Red Oak Life Mustangs outlasted the Swordsmen of Garland Christian to win 70-34.

The teams started racking up yards early. It appeared that neither defense would be able to consistently stop the opposing offense.

The difference in the game was seven turnovers, six interceptions, by the Swordsmen that stopped productive drives. The Mustangs were able to limit their turnovers to just one fumble lost.

These two teams combined for a total of 1,453 yards, but they came in different ways.

The Swordsmen threw the ball 54 times for 585 of their 640 total yards.  The Mustangs used the ground game for the bulk of their yardage rushing 59 times for 529 of their 840 total yards.

Offensively, the Mustangs were led on the ground by Blake with 30 carries for 313 yards and four touchdowns.

Zepeda also had a productive night on the ground with 20 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

Through the air, Oder ended the night with 284 passing yards on 14 of 24 attempts and two touchdowns. He spread the ball around to several receivers.

Forde had four catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. Trevino had three catches for 89 yards and a score. Grase had five catches for 70 yards. Hipshire had two grabs for 32 yards.

Defensively, the Mustangs were led by Grase’s three interceptions. N. Cooper had two interceptions and Treviso added another.  Penny also jumped on a fumble to stop another Swordsmen drive.
