Kenneth Gordon Rowland

Oct. 17, 1941 –

Sept. 4, 2013

Kenneth Rowland, 71, was born Oct. 17, 1941 to Harold Rowland and Frances Gillespie.  He went to be with the Lord on Sept. 4, 2013.

Kenneth began an 8-year career in the Navy when he was just 17 years old, serving his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis and during the early stages of the Vietnam War.  He married his beloved wife, Connie, in January 1972 and together they blended a family of five children. Early in their marriage, Kenneth was determined to finish college, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  Although he applied himself mightily to his education and his career, Kenneth was not mostly about work. He was a family man, loving and caring for his five children, and later his 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mostly he was a man of God, loving and serving his Savior as a deacon at Oak Crest Baptist Church in Midlothian. He loved working with computers and considered maintaining the computers and networks of the church to be a ministry in itself. He could often be found sharing his specialized skills with his church family as well, as he could never resist a computer in need.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Rowland; children, Gary Rowland and wife, Gail, Shannon Gragsone, Tracy Kersey and husband, Jason, Krissy Satz and husband, Doug and Ken Rowland and wife, Michelle; brothers, Richard Rowland and Charles Anderson and wife, Beverly; grandchildren, Samantha McBride, Adam McBride, Grant Rowland, Gabriel Rowland, Jake Botello, Eric Botello, Leah Gragsone, Michael Satz, Andrew Satz, Catherine Hadlock and husband, Kevin, Curtis Watts, Emily Rowland, Landon Rowland and Rachel Rowland; and great-grandson, Derek Hadlock.

He was the picture of a servant’s heart, living his life so that others could see Jesus in him. His legacy will be long lasting and multi-faceted, but mostly he would want his legacy to point to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Midlothian Funeral Home with services at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Oak Crest Baptist Church in Midlothian. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery, Sardis, Texas.

Arrangements by Midlothian Funeral Home, 200 E. Avenue E, Midlothian, Texas.
