A bigger, stronger Red Oak Life School football team took the field Friday night looking for revenge of last year’s season opening loss to Blooming Grove.

It was apparent early in the game that the dominance Blooming Grove had last year had flipped in favor of Red Oak Life as the Mustangs rolled to a 34-7 season-opening victory.

Hightower, Toves, Rich, Flores and Alcaraz up front led the way to a Life record of 596 total yards. Two of the first three drives for the Mustangs ended in field goals by Gonzales. The first was 42 yards, the second was 35 yards.

With less than six minutes left in the first half, Red Oak Life had a 27-0 lead and never looked back.

Offensively, the Mustangs were led on the ground by Blake, who had 242 yards on 22 carries and scored twice.

Zepeda rushed 13 times for 48 yards and Oder ran six times for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Through the air, the Mustangs were led in passing by Oder who had 11 completions on 18 attempts for 250 yards and a touchdown.

Forde was his top target with six catches for 176 yards and a touchdown. Trevino had one catch for 29 yards and Grase had three catches for 23 yards.

Defensively, Red Oak Life was led in tackles by Anderson with 12 and Cooper, Penny and  Shore all with 10 stops.

Anderson and Cooper had a sack each and Forde had an interception. The Mustangs will take the field again this week on the road against Garland Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
