An Ellis County Grand Jury last week filed an indictment against Venus resident Jacob Lee Smith, 19, on the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Midlothian Police Department arrested Smith Sunday, June 16.

According to the indictment, Smith allegedly cause bodily injury to the victim by striking the victim with a baseball bat on Sunday, May 26.

Smith was booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center at 3:11 a.m. on June 16.

Edward Jendrzey has been appointed as Smith’s attorney.

Smith remains in custody at the detention center and his bond has been set at $30,000.

Smith’s arraignment has been set for Thursday, Oct. 3 in the 40th Judicial District Court with Judge Bob Carroll.
