Internet & Email Basics

Learn what the web is all about! In a course designed for beginners, you will explore the World Wide Web, learn about use and search engines. Learn shortcuts to make web browsing more efficient. Learn how to send, receive and format email, how to add attachments and pictures to your emails.

Office 2007 – Introduction to Word

This class will provide you with the tools needed to successfully create and save documents, edit and make corrections and use automatic text features. You will format pages, paragraphs, move, copy, find and replace text. You will also learn to use proofing tools and preview and print documents, envelopes and labels and learn to work with templates. Limit:  0 students

Office 2007-Introduction to Excel

This class is for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Excel. You will learn how to understand spreadsheets, enter data and save workbooks, modify worksheets and workbooks.  You will also be provided with the tools to create and edit charts and graphs, work with formulas and use templates, styles and auto formats.  Limit: 20 students

Web Design Basics

Learn the basics of setting up, building and maintaining your own Website. Students will learn HTML, CSS and basic web design tips and tricks.  The goal of this class is for students to be able to create their own functional website by the end of the semester.  Students should bring their own USB thumb drive for this class. Must be at least 1GB of storage.

Web Design Advanced

In the advanced class you will dive into more advanced topics of web development including CSS, advanced layouts, design elements, PHP, JavaScript, and more. Students will need to have previous experience in web design with knowledge of HTML and some CSS. Those who have taken the beginner class and felt comfortable with the concepts taught there will be able to keep up in this class. Students will need a USB Drive with a capacity of at least 1GB.

Basics of QuickBooks

Join this class and get going with QuickBooks. You will learn basic bookkeeping, basic accounts payable, basic accounts receivable, how to write a check and QuickBooks invoicing process.

Conversational Spanish I

 Would you like to learn the basics of Spanish to communicate in the workplace, at home or in travels?  This course is for adults who have no previous conversational knowledge of Spanish- or who have not had Spanish -language training in many years.

iPhone Basics

There are certain basics you need to learn with any device. Learn how your iPhone can make your life easier, more productive and informative. You will see demonstrations on ways you can save time and keep you organized as well as entertained. This class is for the true beginner, please bring your questions. You will see your iPhone in a whole new way! Those considering an iPhone are welcome to attend.

Facebook /Social Media

Basics for Business?This course will teach you the ins and outs of everything a beginner needs to know about Facebook for business. You will learn how to create and edit your profile, choose and change your privacy settings, find friends, old classmates, and family members to befriend, accept friendship requests, upload your digital photos into Facebook photo albums, tag your friends and family in your photos, use Facebook applications, join fan pages to receive news from groups, organizations, and businesses that you like, and much more!

Line Dance

Join professional dance instructors Lou Ann Ramey & Qyn Hughes for this high energy and fun class to learn line dances such as the Freeze, The Electric Slide, Texas Twister and many others including the latest dances, the Cupid Shuffle and the Cha-cha slide. Slick soled shoes are recommended.

Basic Dog Obedience

Dog owners will learn basic commands which will enhance the pet-owner bond, using positive reinforcement. Owners will need to bring their pet with a standard buckle collar and 4-6 foot leash. Please bring vaccination certificates for pets as well as training treats.  Bring your pet for the first class so the training can begin! Limit 10 students.

Embroidery

Hand embroidery is a fun and easy way to embellish clothes, accessories and household items.  This class is for anyone who wants to learn or relearn basic embroidery stitches.  No sewing skills are needed! Please bring to class: embroidery needles, 10 skeins of embroidery floss in various colors, small scissors and a 6” embroidery hoop (wooden or plastic).

Repurposed Sweater Gifts

Dig out those old wool sweaters and breathe new life into them with this beginning sewing class.  Scour your closet, or the thrift stores for 3 old 100% wool sweaters. Wash them in hot water prior to class; we want them shrunk! You’ll need to bring your sewing machine and a good pair of scissors to make the following projects: a fashionable scarf,  hat,  hot pad,  monster bag and a pair of slippers.

Sign Language Basics

An introduction to the basics in American Sign Language (ASL).  Includes the manual alphabet and numbers.  You will develop basic conversational abilities and will be exposed to ASL grammar.

Learn to Play the Guitar

Come join us for this fun beginner’s class.  In this 5 week study you will learn the basics of guitar playing, including tuning, chording, strumming and some basic study techniques to continue with once the course is over.  Please bring your own guitar acoustic preferred, but not required.  Ages 10 and above.

Beginning Drawing- Kids

This class will teach you a drawing system to draw using a proven method of looking at objects or pictures, and breaking it down into simple elements. We will learn to draw a bird, a lion, a horse and a still life using this method. Class is appropriate for ages 7 and above.

Beginning Drawing- Adults

This is a teacher lead project. Leah’s drawing technique is applicable to all ages and talent levels.  She can help you enhance your current skills as well as advance your drawing abilities to the next level. The class will include an introduction to perspective drawing and provide opportunities to try still life and abstract art. Supplies needed:  drawing pad any type, sketch book any size, 2B pencil, 6B pencil, gum eraser, sharpener, blending stump and colored pencils (optional).

Dutch Oven Cooking

Learn to cook outdoors in a Dutch Oven.  Get ready for camping, fishing, hunting season or family gatherings.  You will learn how to properly use equipment and prepare a variety of dishes such as cakes, cobblers, biscuits and more.  The novice cook to the expert can benefit from this class.   Please bring a lawn chair.  Class will be held at the Ron Appleton Agriscience Building at the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy.

Southern Magazine Series

The series continues for fall/holiday from the pages of everyone’s favorite Southern Magazine to our classroom, let’s learn something new. Heidi will take cooking and entertaining ideas from the beautiful and creative pages of this magazine to continue series with classes 4, 5, 6. Take one or take all three and students new to the series may join. The series will feature fabulous ideas.
