The Midlothian volleyball team took part in one of the toughest preseason tournaments in the state last weekend.
The Lady Panthers played in a total of seven matches at the Northwest ISD Volleyball Classic in Trophy Club and won twice.
Midlothian beat Birdville 27-25, 25-16 on the first day of the tournament. Also on that day, the Lady Panthers fell to Arlington Lamar 25-12, 25-18.
On the second day of the tournament, Midlothian lost to 4A No. 2 Highland Park 25-15, 25-9, 4A No. 7 Cedar Park 25-11, 25-14 and Vandegrift 25-16, 19-25, 26-24.
Following the first two days of pool play of the tournament, Midlothian entered the Red Championship bracket. In the semifinals, Midlothian beat Pearland Dawson 25-22, 25-22. In the championship of the Red division, the Lady Panthers lost to Aledo 25-20, 25-12.
Also last week, the Midlothian varsity team took on Arlington Grace Prep and lost 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 25-27, 16-14. Mollie McBride led the way with 13 kills. Tarin Mergener added 11 and Morgan Griffin contributed 10.
Ashton Rawlings had 21 assists and Keaton Shirk added 20. CeCe Madison had three blocks and McBride and Griffin each blocked two.
Madison Savage and Rawlings each had three aces. Mergener and Nina Lopez each had 20 digs.
The Lady Panthers (3-9) will play again this weekend at a tournament in Forney. The Lady Panthers will return home at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 to face Highland Park.
JV and freshmen win
The freshman team played Grace Prep last Tuesday and won in two games 25-8, 25-7.
On Friday, they travelled to Arlington Martin and won in three games 26-24, 15-25, 15-13. The B team lost to Martin in 21-25, 23-25.†
The Freshman A team also played in the Crandall JV Tournament and took third place.†
Their record is 8-0 against other freshmen teams.
The JV team also played Grace Prep last Tuesday and won 25-21 and 25-10.
On Friday, they travelled to Arlington Martin and won 25-22, 25-20.
The JV team also competed in the Crandall JV Tournament and beat Waxahachie 25-16, 25-16 in the championship.
The JV teamís record is 9-0.
