At about 12:05 a.m. Aug. 21, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report from a man who said his son’s pickup had been stolen from the 600 block of W. 4th St. in Maypearl. The man told dispatchers he had spotted the pickup and was following it.

A deputy caught up to the pickup, which was traveling northbound on Interstate 35E.

The pickup refused to yield and a chase ensued. The pursuit continued northbound on I-35E into Dallas County, with Dallas County Sheriff’s Office advised.

The pickup exited at Colorado, where it wrecked out.

The deputy arrived to see a male suspect fleeing the scene and a foot chase ensued. The deputy located the suspect and took him into custody.

The suspect, identified as Marcos Gallegos, 18, of Dallas, was booked into Wayne McCollum Detention Center on a third-degree felony charge of evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and a third-degree felony charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

He was released Aug. 22 after posting $3,000 bonds on each charge.
