The next time you are planning a evening out, consider helping a local charity. Johnny Carino’s in Waxahachie is teaming up with members of the Waxahachie Fire and Police Departments to lend a hand to Hope Clinic.

The restaurant is hosting a giveback day on Thursday, Aug. 29. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the day’s sales will be donated to Hope Clinic. In the evening, local police and firefighters will take part in a rib-eating contest.

“One of the most important things we value at Johnny Carino’s is getting involved and supporting the communities we serve. And what better organization to partner with here in Waxahachie than the Hope Clinic — an organization that most people know exists to care for the medically underserved in and around Ellis County by ministering to their physical, spiritual and emotional needs in a comprehensive, outpatient healthcare center. And what better way to show our support than through a fun and family-friendly event,” Johnny Carino’s Manager Cody Nicholson said. “We’re proud to host Waxahachie’s finest in our Boots vs. Badges Rib eating contest. Three firefighters will go up against three police officers to see who can eat their ribs the fastest. Throughout the day leading up to the event, we’ll have an area where guests can vote on who they think will win, and get entered into a drawing for Johnny Carino’s gift cards.”

Nicholson said there will also be a face painting station for the kids as part of the event.

Police and firefighters will show up at the restaurant stating at 6 p.m. with the contest kicking off at 6:30 p.m.

Waxahachie Police Department Community Relations Officer Wess Winn said he wants to encourage the public to come out to this event to support a great organization, Hope Clinic, who does so much for the community.

“The police department as well as the police association fully supports this event,” Winn said.

Waxahachie Firefighters Association President Capt. Don Alexander agreed with Winn and wants to encourage the public to come out and attend an event that will help so many people — not just in Waxahachie but throughout Ellis County.

Hope Clinic is located at 411 East Jefferson St. in Waxahachie and has been serving the community since 1999. The clinic provides comprehensive health care services including adult and pediatric primary health care, women’s health, dental care and restoration and behavioral health assessment and treatment.

Flyers to help promote the event will be available to pick up at Johnny Carino’s located at 988 West U.S. Highway Bypass in Waxahachie, the Waxahachie Fire Administration building located at 401 South Water St. and at the Waxahachie Police Department located at 216. North College St.
