Why was the dinosaur afraid to visit the library? Because his book was 60 million years overdue!

No need to be scared of Meadows!

Instead of collecting money for overdue items, Meadows Library is accepting school supplies for at-risk students at Midlothian High School through September.

Basic supplies such as pencils, pens, paper and notebooks are welcome to erase library fines for overdue or lost library material.

If a fine is so large you are too apprehensive to approach the circulation desk we offer a solution. Simply buy a backpack to donate and clear your library debt.

Movement Toward a Future is an effective mentoring program at the high school that services identified at-risk students.

The donated school supplies will go directly to kids enrolled in the campus-mentoring program.

In its fourth year on campus, Movement Toward a Future involves community volunteers who meet with an at-risk student each week to discuss academic achievement, encourage secondary students to stay in school and develop goals for the future.

It is a remarkable program.

Creator and director, Dena Petty, offices in the library. The library staff sees busy adult volunteers faithfully mentor kids week after week.

High school students walk into the library looking for their mentors at the scheduled meeting times.

Iíve heard the best way to improve your own life is to care about someone elseís life.

Surprisingly, many of our students need someone to care about them. They need positive attention and encouragement from an adult about their academic efforts. †

And, many of them need school supplies.

For more information about the mentoring program, please call Dena Petty (972) 775-8237 ext. 1340.

The Midlothian High School Interact Club members will coordinate gathering and delivering the donated items to specific students.

They are pictured here with their first group of donated backpacks. Collection boxes are available in the library.

Why was the skeleton afraid to visit the library?

Because he had no guts!
