Whatís happening at the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market

Saturday, Aug. 17 is the return of the Master Gardenerís Great Iris Give-A-Way. The iris is the official flower of Waxahachie. The first 70 visitors to the Ellis County Master Gardener booth can go home with a bag of iris rhizomes and instructions on how to plant and care for them.

The farmers market, located at 410 South Rogers Street, is open every Saturday from 8a.m. to 1p.m. until mid December.† Be sure to stop by the master gardener booth for timely horticulture information from the experts.

American Red Cross blood drive

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Nicholas P. Sims Library from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Are you ready to change a life? Remember one pint of blood can save up to three lives.

Summer Moonlight Movies

The Avengers will be shown at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 as part of the Summer Moonlight Movies series. The movie will be shown on a large blow up screen on Franklin Street between College and Jackson Streets. The event is free and open to the public.

ETA Omega Blood Drive

ETA Omega will host a blood drive from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in the parking lot by Burger King. This is a Carter BloodCare event. You can win backyard rewards this summer just for helping people in your own back yard. Donate this summer and youíll receive great rewards from our partners. Pet Appreciation at Tractor Supply

Pet Appreciation at Waxahachie Tractor Supply will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Tractor Supply will be sponsoring in store freebies and give aways, including gift cards valuing up to $150 and doggie bag prize packs. Pet food vendors will be in attendance. Maxineís Vaccines will be administering low cost vaccinations and pet care to the public from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Godís Little Critters will be bringing their fancy ponies for children to enjoy. Coops by Ty will be in attendance, giving advice on keeping poultry and rabbits, and displaying some of their custom built animal lodgings.

Area animal groups will be participating, including adoptable animals from the Ellis County SPCA and All Texas Dachshund Rescue.

There will also be a bake sale to benefit several rescue dogs with special medical needs.

Live music will add a festive flair to the celebration.

Midlothian Farmers Market

The Midlothian Downtown Business Association will host its downtown farmers market from 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday until October at Heritage Park by the Larkin Newton Log Cabin.
