ENNIS – In a joint statement from the Ennis ISD board of trustees and Superintendent Dr. Barbara Qualls, an announcement was posted on the district’s website announcing Qualls’ resignation.

The announcement followed a called meeting of the district’s trustees on July 30.

“An agreement has been reached which allows Dr. Qualls the ability to pursue other interests and permits the board to pursue hiring another superintendent. The board and Dr. Qualls have entered into the agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and the best interest of the district, ” the statement read.

The board recognized Qualls for the many achievements and accomplishments of the entire district during her tenure as superintendent. The board expressed its sincere appreciation to Qualls for her efforts while serving as superintendent.   

Qualls thanked present and past board members for providing her with the opportunity to serve in the Ennis Independent School District.

 “A school district is measured by the commitment of the board, staff, community and its children and their achievements,” Qualls said.

She also expressed her appreciation to the staff and community for their support of the district’s programs and services during her term as superintendent.    

Qualls official last day with the district will be Aug. 31.

EISD Communications Director Henry Martinez said she has already left the district.

No further information regarding Qualls departure was released.

At this time, an interim superintendent has not been named. The trustees could consider naming an interim superintendent at their regular monthly meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.

According the district’s website the board will soon begin its search as not to disrupt the district’s operations.
