Ellis County Wildlife Expo
Ark Country Store is gearing up for its fourth Ellis County Wildlife Expo set to take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Waxahachie Civic Center. Tickets are $5 per person at the door, with children 12 and under admitted for free. Ark Country Store Co-owner Candice Jones invites everyone to come out and hear leading wildlife management experts, see the latest hunting gear, mingle with vendors and enter to win door prizes. Waxahachie Band Back to School Car Wash
Come out and get your car sparkling clean for the new school year at the Spirit of Waxahachie Band annual Back to School Car Wash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 in the WHS front parking lot.
The car wash is free, but donations will be accepted. Band members will also be collecting donations prior to the car wash.

Midlothian Farmers Market
The Midlothian Downtown Business Association will host its downtown farmers market from 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday until October at Heritage Park by the Larkin Newton Log Cabin.
ECTP to sponsor leadership training
The Ellis County Tea Party will sponsor leadership training to develop a new generation of American elected leaders. Attend the seminar from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Waxahachie Convention Center.
Cost is $15, which includes lunch and training materials.
Attendees will learn how to effectively support candidates running for elected office.
Training will be done by American Majority, a nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to developing a new generation of American elected leadership.

Troop 234 to hold fundraiser dinner
Waxahachie Boy Scout Troop 234 will host its annual fundraising dinner and silent auction from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at St. Paul Church, 624 Ovilla Road at Highway 287. The dinner will be catered by Ta Molly’s Restaurant and will include enchiladas (beef or chicken), rice and refried beans, chips, salsa, homemade desserts and iced tea. The silent auction will be held during the meal. To go plates will be available. Price is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Vial of Life Kickoff Event
The Maypearl Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a kickoff event for Vial of Life from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. The Vial of Life program provides a way for people to store their medical information so first responders can locate it during an emergency. Vial of Life kits will be given out free of charge. The fire station will be open for tours and a free hot dog lunch will be provided to guests who attend. The fire station is located 705 north Main St. in Maypearl.
Fundraiser bake sale
Lakes Regional Day Hab Center will hold a fundraiser bake sale Aug. 10 in front of Oma’s Jiffy Burger. The center is trying to raise funds to purchase a copier/printer and an iPad. Carnival at Sims Library
The Friends of Sims Library will sponsor a carnival as the grand finale program to the Texas Summer Reading Club from10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 10. This will be an outdoor event, held on the front lawn of the library.
The carnival is a celebration of all the learning and reading the kids have done over the summer. A balloon artist, bounce house, cotton candy, dunking booth, face painter, games, prizes, snow cones, and fun, fun, fun is to be had. Plan on joining in this annual event. Movies in the Park
The Midlothian Parks and Recreation Department will show “Zookeeper” at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Hawkins Spring Park as the final movie in its Movies in the Park series, sponsored by Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. Families and children can get the full zoo experience by interacting with Country Critters’ animals before the movie showing. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The park is located at 1498 Farm-to-Market 1387.
