OVILLA –The Ovilla City Council named resident Dean Oberg to the council in a 3 – 1 vote with councilmember Doug Hunt in opposition.
Oberg took the seat in Place 5 that had been vacated by Mayor Richard Dormier in May. Dormier vacated the seat when he moved into the city’s mayoral role.
Oberg has lived in Ovilla with his wife for “a little over 30 years,” he said, adding “I am originally from up north, but moved to Texas just after my wife and I got married 36 years ago.”
Oberg has sat on Ovilla’s Planning and Zoning Board twice in the past.
“I just wanted to continue to help make Ovilla a great place to live,” he says of taking the position on the city council. “I would like to see Ovilla continue to grow as well as be a safe place to raise a family.”
When he is not working with the council he says he enjoys spending time with his family and especially his two grandchildren.
“I consider it an honor and privilege to serve on the city council of Ovilla and being the new kid on the block with the council I really would like to see how the other council members are thinking,” he said of his new role. “I do see Ovilla continuing to grow, especially with the new housing development going in.”
