First Christian Church in hosted Vacation Bible School this week. During the week children attending the event got to learn about the story of Jonah and the Whale. To help enhance the Bible story a blow up whale named Sparky was created and put on display in the family life center of the church. The whale was made out of plastic sheeting and packing tape. The wale was 35 feet long and 10 feet wide. About 18 children at a time were allowed to go inside the wale for story time. Children entered the whale through the mouth. It took five volunteers over two evening to construct the whale using plans downloaded from the Internet. Following the end of Vacation Bible School the First Christian Day School will use the whale for science lessons in September and then it will be retired.
