Gerald Lynn “Doc” Harmon, 65, of Waxahachie passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at the V.A. Hospital in Dallas. He was born July 14, 1948, in Waxahachie to Mary Helen Harmon.
Gerald was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, two bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/1960 Device, Purple Heart, two Overseas Bars and Expert (M-14). He was a lifetime member of the DAV. Gerald resided with his cousins, Danny and Linda Harris of Waxahachie. He worked for Vietnam Ministry in Louisiana.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Lynn Harmon of Isabel, La.; one grandson, William Hunter Harmon; two brothers, Kenny Dalan of Springfield, Mo., Henry Yates of Waxahachie; one sister, MaryAnn Dalan of Springfield, Mo.; two uncles, Leroy Harmon Jr. and James Harmon and wife, Pat; two aunts, Edna Earl Harris of Dallas and Delores Harmon of Florida; sister-in-law, Glenda Yates; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by Maude and Leroy Harmon Sr. of Waxahachie; his biological mother, Mary Helen Peterson of Commerce; brothers, James Armstrong Sr. of Waxahachie and William Ray Yates of Cedar Hill.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, in the chapel of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the Patriot Guard Riders.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
