The Waxahachie Independent School District received a $1,000 donation from the United Way of West Ellis County to benefit Operation First Day of School.
Director of Public Relations for WISD Dr. Nicole Mansell said the donation enables the school district to purchase those much needed school supplies for its students who are in need.
“Operation First Day of School serves to help our students get started on the right foot from day one,” Mansell said. “It affords us the ability to provide students with school supplies, clothing, immunizations, haircuts, etc.”
Mansell said any parent will tell you that it’s expensive to get their child prepared for the first day of school and with United Way’s donation they are able to do just that.
For the past four years the United Way of West Ellis County has donated money to area school districts to assist with their back to school campaigns.
Executive Director for the UWWEC Casey Ballard said they are privileged to be in a position where they can work closely with the local school districts to make sure that funds are available for all students in west Ellis County.
“It’s our privilege to be able to provide these funds so that students have the opportunity to get the school supplies that they need and go back to school ready and prepared for the year,” Ballard said. “Education is such a huge part of what we do. It’s the building block of life.”
Ballard added that if they can assist in providing quality education for students, they have a better chance of a successful life.
The UWWEC will also be making $1,000 donations to five other school districts in its service area including Maypearl, Italy, Avalon, Red Oak and Milford.
