Above, standing beside the original Superconducting Super Collider map, is Edwin Farrar, one of several county leaders involved in winning the SSC for Ellis County in 1988.

Farrar will speak at the Ellis County Museum’s Annual Membership Meeting Monday at 7 p.m., being held in the District Courtroom, 2nd floor of the Ellis County Courthouse.

This occasion was selected to recall the SSC inasmuch as this year marks the 25th year since Ellis County was selected as the site for the massive scientific project in 1988. Farrar will talk about all that went into recruiting the SSC, reasons why  we were chosen and some of those involved in the competition effort. Following the program, there will be a reception across the street at the Ellis County Museum, where there will be a number of items from those years on display.

Farrar notes that even though the project was ultimately canceled, it is still a major part of Ellis County history. The presentation is open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.
