Looking for a unique item that will add the touch of character to a room that will give it that wow factor? Perhaps you might be looking for that one item that will complete a collection. The Waxahachie Downtown Merchants Association will be hosting its community wide garage sale, ‘Junk in the Trunk,’ from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, around the courthouse square.
“This is fifth Junk in the Trunk and we are continuing to have great support, great outpouring and great interest from people that are wanting to participate. Most people I am finding are buying two spaces instead of one,” Downtown Development Director Anita Williamson said. “We were kind of concerned that a lot of people were not going to sign up for this one because of the heat. I have been sending the applications out in emails and taking phone calls for a week and half now. So I think that there is going to be as just as much interest in this one as the first one. I am really looking forward to it.”
Williamson said Junk in the Trunk provides shoppers with an experience that they can’t find elsewhere. Vendors will have a wide variety of items for sale that will include everything from collectables, home décor, toys, furniture, sporting goods and many homemade items made by local craftsmen. Williams estimates that there will be around 40-50 vendors at Saturday’s event.
Vendor booths will be set up in parking spaces around the courthouse along College and Franklin Streets. An overflow area for vendors will be set up at in the parking lot located at 300 S. Rogers St. and will be used if needed.
Vendors participating in Saturday’s event will be allowed to set up from 7:30–8:45 a.m. If vendors are not there before 8:45 a.m. they will forfeit their spot and no refund will be given.
“We have had several vendors participate in it every time we have had it. So it is fun to see them and also meet all the new ones that are coming in to do it for the first time,” Williamson said. “It is really just a great fun event. Not only do the vendors have fun but the shoppers do too. We will have a band there. The same band that we had in April will be there.”
Along with Junk in the Trunk shoppers can also checkout the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market. The market is located at 410 S. Rogers St and is open from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. It offers a variety of different items for sale that includes fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, baked goods, jewelry, jams, jellies, salsas, pottery clothing, hats and home décor items.
After shopping, visitors can return to downtown in the evening for a free ice cream social sponsored by Historic Waxahachie, Inc. from 7:30-9 p.m. around the courthouse square on Main Street. Ice cream will be served until it runs out. Following the ice cream social people can watch a free showing of the movie “The Blind Side” that starts at 9 p.m. The movie will be shown on a large blowup screen located on Franklin Street between College and Jackson Street in downtown.
