Looking for a way to beat the heat and enjoy a night free of entertainment?
On Saturday, July 13, members of Historic Waxahachie, Inc. will give away ice cream and a free movie will be shown by the city later on in the evening in downtown Waxahachie.
“We have partnered with Historic Waxahachie to bring their annual Ice Cream Social downtown. The ice cream social is normally a private event. They wanted to open it up to the public,” Waxahachie Community Relations Manager Amy Hollywood said.
“Historic Waxahachie is one of our great local organizations that does a lot for helping us preserve our history and promote it as well. They have developed the historic driving tour and things like that really help our tourism.”
According to its website, the goal of Historic Waxahachie is to educate the public about the cultural, historical and economic benefits of protecting Waxahachie’s unique social and architectural history. The ice cream social will help to introduce the organization to people who are not familiar with it.
Hollywood said ice cream will be served from 7:30–9 p.m. along the lawn of the historic courthouse. Ice cream will be served until it runs out. Members of Historic Waxahachie will be on hand to answer question about the organization. The courthouse is located at 101 W. Main St.
The movie to be shown is the “Blind Side” staring Sandra Bullock. The movie is based on the life story of National Football League player Michael Oher. The film will be projected onto a large blowup screen located on Franklin Street between College and Jackson streets and will start at 9 p.m. Concessions will be available to purchase during the movie.
“I think that it is going to be a really great, fun and charming family event. The ice cream social events are sort of a step back in time. I think that it will be a lot of fun,” Hollywood said. “Just make sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets for the movie. The movie will also have concessions available if you’re not able to get there in time for the ice cream.”
Hollywood said the ice cream is free and the movie is free for the public to attend. For more information about the event contact Downtown Development Director Anita Williamson at city hall at 469-309-4111 or go online at www.waxahachiecvb.com.
