Expansion of the northeast trunk sewer line is expected to begin in February.

The Waxahachie City Council awarded the project to Circle H Contractors at the Dec. 17 meeting. Circle H was one of seven bidders on the project and its winning bid was $1,726,878.04.

“We have a few sections of the northeast trunk sewer that are still the original sewer line that was built in the 1960s and 1970s. The northeast part of the city has grown,” Director of Utilities David Bailey said. “There is a need to add additional capacity to the sewer collection system to allow for continued development in the area.”

Bailey said the upgrades on the line will not only improve the capacity that the line is able to handle but will reduce sewer overflows on streets. It will also be able to handle inflow and infiltration from water during rain events better, he said.

The project will start at the 1400 block of east Jefferson Street at the sewer lift station.  From Jefferson portions that will be upgraded included sections along east Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, an area between Parks School House Road and Cleaver Street, and an area between Marvin Gardens to Farley Street.

Baily said majority of the construction is going take place off the roadway in open fields. There might be a few spots along Farley Street where a flagman will be directing traffic while construction crews are working.

The project is expected to take around six months to complete and finishing up by the beginning of August 2013. Bailey does not foresee any interruption in service for residents during the construction but if that does occur residents will be notified, he said.

Circle H Contractors have worked in the city on past projects such as the Grove Creek trunk sewer line phase one and Broadhead Road sanitary sewer line and lift station.

Bailey said Circle H has experienced and knowledgeable workers who will do a quality job. The northeast trunk sewer line is a major collection line for the city and the expansion line will help keep growth moving forward, Bailey said.

If residents have questions about the project they may contact the Utilities Department at city hall at 972-937-7330 ext. 121. Waxahachie city hall is located at 401 S. Rogers St. and the Utilities Department is located in the basement.
